CrossBow

What Is CrossBow?

Girl with Bible

Psalm 127 says, “ Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth.  How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them...”

Our children are truly a gift from the Lord and this passage is the basis of the name, CROSSbow Ministries.  It is the umbrella name for the collection of ministries relating to children here at ECC.  We believe there is a reason God chooses to refer to our children as “arrows” in this Psalm.

A skilled archer needs a perfect arrow in order to accurately hit the target.  For an arrow to fly straight and true, it must be flawlessly straight.  How do you  produce a perfectly straight arrow from a flawed piece of wood?  The straightening process is a very slow and sensitive one.  The best way is to straighten a young piece of green wood as it dries.  You must VERY slowly and gradually straighten each part of the wood until every bend and kink gives way and submits to the guidance of your hand.  In a very stubborn shaft the bend may reappear causing you frustration, and in this case, the best method to make that arrow bend the way you desire, no kidding, is to bend it over your knee and apply heat!  The heat softens the wood and makes it pliable and easier to straighten.  But it is very important as you apply the heat, that you take care not to overheat the wood, as it can become very brittle and weak.  But with care, tenderness, and persistence, a patient arrow - master will be rewarded with a perfectly straight, true, and accurate arrow.

In the home, parents are striving to make their own arrows “straight”, to grow their children up in the knowledge of the Lord.  Those of us who are involved in the childrenʼs ministry here at ECC desire to partner with you to help you do just that.
