Radical Discipleship

Jeff Harris & Justin Cole

Untamed: Reactivating a Missional Form of Discipleship.
Grand Rapids: Baker Books, 2010.
Hirsch, Alan & Debra Hirsch.

Discipleship is costly.
Are we willing to critique and challenge
what we've been taught for the sake of the kingdom? This is the
radical nature of the discipleship to which Jesus calls us. He did
not allow the outside culture to hold him captive; instead he established
the Kingdom of God and turned the world on its head.
Jesus was untamed, and he calls his church to be the same. In this
course we will cast a vision for missional discipleship. We will look
at topics such as church, the image of God, family life, culture, and
sexuality. We will seriously ask the question, “How are we to
think and live day to day as followers of Jesus? “

Have you noticed how sometimes you have a story in the
back of your mind that keeps coming up, even when you're talking
about something else? In Ephesians, throughout its worship,
prayers and instructions for living, Paul can't contain his joy and
amazement at the larger story of God's plan to save us in Jesus the
Messiah. This study will help us see the significance of our role in
God's grand narrative, encourage us to live more fully as people
who are lavishly loved by God, and lead us to discover how we
can participate more fully in God's kingdom.

Stott, John R. W.
We long to belong. We crave unity. We want to be loved
and accepted by others. Paul's letter to the Ephesians is about
uniting all things in Christ. Here we learn how to break down
what separates us from God, one ethnic group from another,
husband from wife, parent from child and employer from employee.
These studies provide a vision of the new society God
has planned in his church.

Chan, Francis
Sadly, most believers and churches are known for their
talent or intellect rather than supernatural power. What’s
worse is that we are okay with it. Francis Chan asserts that we
are falling short of God’s grand design because we are ignoring
or have forgotten the crucial role of the Holy Spirit in the life
of the believer and the church of Jesus Christ. Join us as we
pursue the Spirit-filled life of effectiveness that God desires for
us.

Love and War
Rob & Kathleen Vandiver

Love and War: Finding the Marriage
You’ve Dreamed Of
New York: Doubleday, 2009.
Eldredge, John & Stasi Eldredge.

Two things make Love and War a unique and helpful book on
marriage. First, John and Stasi Eldredge share their own personal
story with a transparency that is both unbelievable and extremely
helpful. Second, it’s not a "how to" book on marriage. There are
no tips and techniques. Marriage is too complex a relationship
to be "fixed" by tips and techniques, or any list of rules or principles.
There are not enough rules or principles out there to fit
every situation. Instead, they show us how God designed marriage
to drive us to Him, so that He can fix the unfixable.
