Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed

II Timothy 2:15 – Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

The ECC AWANA Club is a children’s ministry for all kids three years old through high school. We meet weekly on Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from mid August to mid May for all ages except high school which meets on Tuesday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. To encourage a fun atmosphere, we like to have a different theme every week like “Glow in the Dark Night” where we talk about being lights in the world for Christ. The kids play age-appropriate games in the dark with their glow in the dark items or flashlights. We also encourage the kids in competitive Bible quizzing, games, and fine arts at both the regional and national levels.

The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15. AWANA Clubs started over 55 years ago in Chicago as an outreach to kids and their families with the Gospel of Christ that continues to be the focus today.

As part of that outreach, meetings are a blend of Bible teaching, Scripture memory, and tons of fun during game time. The Scriptures chosen for memory help the kids learn and understand the Gospel of God’s grace through Jesus Christ, and, then as they progress through the years, they learn to share the Gospel with their friends.
